The HME Business
Consumer Population
MEDIchair's market is primed for exceptional growth in Canada and
North America.
In 2001, there were an estimated 3.92 million Canadians over the
age of 65. This is a 66% increase from 1981 numbers. Today, seniors
represent one out of every eight Canadians - a figure that is estimated
to rise to one in five Canadians by the year 2026. Canada is about
to see a demographic shift unlike any in previous history.
This is MEDIchair's greatest opportunity for growth.
It is estimated that one in four senior Canadians will face restrictions
in their activities due to long-term health problems. There will
be more people needing assistive devices, over a longer period of
time, for at least the next 30 years.
Wealth Distribution
Today people over the age of 50 control 70% of the wealth in the
US and Canada. As the boomers age, it will skew an already lopsided
distribution of wealth in North America. This is a growth industry.
